Ian Walker’s lecture on Photography and Surrealism highlighted the historical and continuing influence of Surrealism on contemporary Photography.
to quote Bazin
‘photography ranks high in the order of
surrealist creativity because it produces an
image that is a reality of nature, namely, an
hallucination that is also a fact. The fact that
surrealist painting combines tricks of visual deception
with meticulous attention to detail substantiates
this.
quote from Andre Bazin - The Ontology of the Photographic Image -
Trip to Bath to catch Still-life Exhibition Art of Arrangement at Holburne Museum & have some quality time in Bath.
The exhibition was fantastically well curated showing diverse images from Fenton to Kertez, Chris Killip and more. Well worth the trip!
It’s only fair to say that Greg Lucas delivered one of the most memorable, quirky and at times hilarious talks yesterday at the Media Centre.
